How Calorie-Conscious are You?

One of the great secrets of weight loss isn’t such a secret after all. Limit the amount of calories you consume each day and eat the right amount of calories for your body and you’ll lose weight. While calorie-counting seems like a tedious task, having a basic knowledge of which foods will send you into a diet trap isn’t.

Eat every 3 hours!

Timing is everything. The 3-Hour Plan is as simple as it sounds. The basic premise is to eat every three hours from the time you wake up. You should eat breakfast within one hour of rising and stop eating three hours before bedtime.

To support this way of eating the 3-Hour Plate was created which should look something like this. Fill half of your plate with vegetables the equivalent of three DVD cases. The bottom half should be filled with protein the size of a deck of cards and carbohydrates equal to a Rubik’s Cube. Don’t forget to top off your plate with one teaspoon of fat the equivalent of a water bottle cap.

There is sound research to back this 3-hour philosophy. By eating every three hours, you prevent the body from activating its “starvation protection mechanism (SPM),” which cannibalizes muscle. This becomes a problem because lean muscle tissue burns fat and gets your metabolism rolling. Not only does the SPM hinder your metabolism, it also causes the body to preserve body fat. Not a good thing.

Flaxseed facts:

Although Flaxseed has been used therapeutically for over 5,000 years, only recently have scientists learned that it may lower blood cholesterol levels, that are often associated with heart attacks and strokes, reduce the viscosity of blood, lower arterial pressure, prevent colon and breast cancer, improve moods, diminish allergies and produce healthier skin.

Benefits of Bee Pollen:

Bee Pollen has been known to help speed up the healing process, revitalize the body’s many systems, and assist in protecting cells in our bodies from free radical damage – a major cause of cancer. It helps to improve unhealthy and/or aging skin, clear acne, age spots, and plump wrinkles. It helps those who bruise easily, due to its rutin content which helps build strength in the capillary walls, helps strengthen the heart, helps fight anemia, and helps regulate high blood pressure by regulating blood flow. A number of athletes use it to help increase their endurance and strength as well as a natural weight control. Rich in lecithin, bee pollen helps speed up calorie burning and stabilize faulty metabolism and helps benefit digestion. Bee Pollen targets the entire body, but gives a special boost to immune and nervous systems. It has antibiotic, astringent, relaxant, tonic, and nutritive properties. It helps to correct and stabilize our body chemistry.

What is Stevia?

Stevia offers an ideal alternative to other sugars or sugar substitutes. This herb also has numerous therapeutic properties and has been proven in safety and effectiveness for hundreds of years. The sweetening power of Stevia is amazing. It is rated between 70 to 400 times sweeter than white sugar. What is really intriguing about Stevia is that it is completely calorie-free, never initiates a rise in blood sugar, and does not provide an intestinal source for bacteria and yeasts.

What is the Glycemic Index?

The glycemic index is a ranking of carbohydrates based on their immediate effect on blood glucose (blood sugar) levels. It compares foods gram for gram of carbohydrate. Carbohydrates that breakdown quickly during digestion have the highest glycemic indexes. The blood glucose response is fast and high. Carbohydrates that break down slowly, releasing glucose gradually into the blood stream, have low glycemic indexes.
